RUN TO THE HILLS
Iron Maiden
White man came across the sea
He brought us pain and misery
He killed our tribes; he killed our creed
He took our game for his own need
We fought him hard, we fought him well
Out on the plains we gave him hell
But many came, too much for Cree
Oh, will we ever be set free?
Riding through dust clouds and barren wastes
Galloping hard on the plains
Chasing the redskins back to their holes
Fighting them at their own game
Murder for freedom the stab in the back
Women and children and cowards, attack!
Run to the hills
Run for your lives
Soldier blue in the barren wastes
Hunting and killing their game
Raping the women and wasting the men
The only good Indians are tame
Selling them whiskey and taking their gold
Enslaving the young and destroying the old

UNIC Medicina 2022They are simply part of human existence: illnesses and pandemics have accompanied humankind for thousands of years. They have changed societies time and time again. Each year, millions of people around the world suffer from diabetes, high blood pressure, mental health issues, cancer or infections caused by viruses like coronavirus SARS-CoV-2.
Globalization, climate change and migration are three key factors that have a growing impact on global health. Without extensive global health protection there can be no positive social, political, and economic development. Health therefore needs to be viewed from a global perspective, promoting, and strengthening joint worldwide activities. Health is a central human right.
The German government firmly believes that global challenges can only be resolved jointly and is committed to international and interdisciplinary collaboration in the area of global health. Research and innovation play an important role in this context. The main research issues in Germany are the human-animal-environment interface, antimicrobial resistances, vaccine research, food security, and neglected and poverty-related tropical diseases.

UNIC Medicina 2022A new study reveals that the so-called "thirdhand smoke," or the residue from cigarette smoke that lands on surfaces after a smoker lights up, could be hazardous to passers-by even well after the smoker has left the scene new research from the University of California Riverside shows that the so-called “thirdhand smoke” exposure harms organs in mice and increases symptoms of hyperactivity — which suggests humans too might suffer similar negative consequences.
The researchers exposed lab mice to levels of thirdhand smoke meant to imitate the levels humans come into contact with in a smoking environment. They found that the mice exhibited higher levels of lipids and fatty liver disease, as well as inflammation in their lungs. The mice also had trouble healing wounds. Both of these findings are found among people exposed to secondhand smoke. Smokers also tend to take longer to heal their wounds after a surgery.
The researchers also noted increased levels of hyperactivity in the mice, which they compared to similar symptoms reported in children exposed to second and thirdhand smoke. “It follows that children in environments where smoking is, or has been allowed, are at significant risk for suffering from multiple short-term and longer health problems, many of which may not manifest fully until later in life,” the researchers conclude in the study.

Mom’s always saying friends will come and go but family is forever. Well, if that’s true, I could be in for a rough ride. I mean, I love my family and all, but I’m just not sure if we were meant to live together. Maybe it’ll be better later on when we all live in different houses and only see each other on holidays, but right now things are just a little dicey. I’m surprised mom’s always pushing the “family” message, since she and her sisters don’t really get along. Maybe she thinks if she keeps repeating it to me and my brothers, then we’ll come out different. But if I was her, I wouldn’t hold my breath.

in the garden each year
they will teach you
that people too
must wilt
fall
root
rise
in order to bloom
