    Claude Monet was a French artist known for painting in the style called Impressionism. Monet was famous during his lifetime, and his paintings remain popular today. They are on display in art museums around the world.

     Claude Monet was born on November 14, 1840, in Paris, France. He drew and painted as a young man. In the 1860s he became friends with other artists, including PierreAuguste Renoir. The group of artists became known as the Impressionists because of Monet’s painting called Impression: Sunrise.

    Most of Monet’s subjects were from nature. Like other Impressionists, he was fascinated by the way light and shadows change during the day. He often painted the same scene again and again to show all the variations of light and shadow.

    In the 1880s Monet settled in Giverny, outside of Paris. There he painted one of his most famous series of paintings, called Water Lilies. Monet died on December 5, 1926, in Giverny.

Atlas: the new movie from Jennifer Lopez

    Atlas is a sci-fi thriller in which humanity faces the fury of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Filled with impressive visuals and intense action sequences, the movie explores themes of technology, ethics, and humanity’s future in an increasingly interconnected world. However, despite Jennifer Lopez’s convincing performance, the film’s predictability impedes its potential to become an incredible masterpiece.

    Jennifer Lopez is simply superb as a human distrusting machine. Her struggle to survive the battle and her transformation from analyst to combat fighter are convincing. Simu Liu, as the villainous robotic character Harlan, is believable, though he could have been more impactful. Sterling K. Brown, as Colonel Elias, delivers a strong performance, and Abraham Popoola, as the unbeatable AI fighter Casca, is brilliant. In a limited role as Atlas’s mother, Lana Parrilla plays a key character in the film.

    There are no bridges or roads that connect the city-island of Parintins to the rest of the world. This remote city in the Amazon is 369 kilometres away from Manaus, the capital of Brazil’s Amazonas state. Parintins is home to thousands of Indigenous Brazilians and can only be reached by plane or boat. Its position along the Amazon River makes it dependent on resources that arrive from far away cities.

    Despite these isolated conditions, the community of Parintins has developed a novel strategy that celebrates its folk and Indigenous traditions: the Festival do Boi-Bumbá. This annual event is the second most important festival in Brazil, after Rio de Janeiro’s globally renowned carnival.

    Boi-Bumbá, which takes place at the end of June, fuels the local economy by attracting investment as well as thousands of visitors and artists. Over the years, the festival has become the city’s bridge from the deep Amazon to the outside world, reducing political and physical isolation while reinforcing its social capital and cultural assets.
