    The sun shines and our governments make mistakes. What's new? Until recently, experts told us to stay indoors, safe from the dangerous rays of the sun. Skin cancer was the threat, so we kept our children inside.

    Now they tell us sunlight is good for us. We absorb vitamin D from the sun and thus
prevents other forms of cancer and possibly rheumatoid arthntis, so we must po out and sunbathe for about ten minutes a day.

    Sun protection is still essential, according to doctors, because skin cancer 15 a real threat but spends ten minutes in the sun before applying the sun cream.

Dog Genome Mapped, Shows Similarities to Humans

Researchers have finished mapping the genome of the domestic dog.

 

[1] The results show among other things that dogs, mice, and
humans share a core set of DNA.

 

A rough sequencing of a poodle's genome was reported in
2003, but it covered only about 75 percent of the genes.

 

[5] This time, "we have sequenced 99 percent of the genome
of a female boxer," said Kerstin Lindblad-Toh, a geneticist
at the Broad Institute of Harvard University and MIT in
Cambridge, Massachusetts. She is the lead author of the
dog-gene study, which appears tomorrow in the journal
[10] Nature.

 

The researchers also examined DNA from ten different dog
breeds to spot genetic differences between them.

The comparison could help scientists find the genetic roots
of dog behavior and physiology and − perhaps most
[15] importantly − help them identify genes that cause diseases
in both dogs and humans.

in Krabi, the Rayavadee, will reopen fully on
March 6. Trang province, in the south, is said
to be fine, although the upcoming islands of
[15] Ko Yao and Ko Racha were affected. More

The southwest, south and east coasts were all
badly affected, including the popular beach
[20] resorts between Kalutara and Galle. Many hotels
are ruined; others have reopened and are
anxious to receive guests. Surrounding villages
sustained damage, but most hotels are self-

contained. The road south from the capital,
[25] Colombo, may be prone to traffic delays.
Resorts to the north of Colombo were not
damaged, and all of the interior, including the
Yala National Park, is open for business. More
