UCPEL Inverno 2010[1] EFFECT OF STRESS ON TODAYS FAMILIES

[2] Not many would disagree if one says that there is no such thing like
[3] “perfect” families. Families that are happy, relieved, stress free and
[4] united are very difficult to find nowadays. The stress level of today’s
[5] families has increased tremendously. Since a family is an institution
[6] that is closely bonded the problem of one member of the family
[7] easily becomes the problem of each and every member of the family.
[8] This results in increasing the stress level of the entire family.
[9] Maximum families suffer stress because they have very busy schedules
[10] and have so much to do in such a short span of time that they
[11] hardly get time to talk to each other or share their problems. There
[12] are several effects of stress on the family. These include:
[13] Family quarrels: One of the most common outcomes of stress is
[14] quarrels. A stressed out person does not has the potential to remain
[15] calm for a long time. He/she blames other person for his stress. This
[16] results in a quarrel which is not at all healthy for the family. People
[17] often lose their temper and end up damaging their entire family life.
[18] Less or no communication amongst the family members: While some families quarrel and settle their differences there
[19] are others in which family members just cut off the interaction amongst each other. This is even more harmful because
[20] they do not try to settle their differences at all. Until and unless one doesn’t communicate he/she cannot understand
[21] other person’s point of view.
[22] Effect on health: Stress can ultimately lead to poor health of family members. Different people respond differently to
[23] stress. While a few just stop eating food there are others who gulp food when stressed. But one thing is sure that both
[24] the habits are harmful to their health. One must realize that being stressed isn’t a cardinal error. What he needs to
[25] learn is the way in which one responds to it.

What goes up
Everything that we send high enough into space will ultimately end up as space garbage. As long as an object is above the earth atmosphere it will stay in orbit for thousands or even millions of years. Some day it will hit one of the other millions of objects orbiting the earth and that will create more pieces of space garbage, which could crash into each other. For this reason, going into space is very risky and crashing into space garbage is just one of the risks.
After 40 years of sending objects into space, we have seriously polluted the final frontier. Many space paths are littered with garbage and have become a threat to satellites and astronauts.

[01] Anxiety is a natural consequence of everyday
stressful events. Many students experience
some anxiety throughout their day; in some
respects it can help them
navigate difficult situations. However, anxiety
can also
[05] become severe, persistent and
counterproductive.
Anxiety can take the form of a psychological
disorder
including Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic
Disorder, Phobias, Obsessive-Compulsive
Disorder, and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder.
[10] Test Anxiety
Some students may experience severe anxiety
while
taking exams. They may feel nervous and notice
themselves sweating, hyper-ventilating, and
having
difficulty concentrating. However, since test
anxiety is a learned response, it can also be
[15] unlearned.
What can I do to reduce test anxiety?
· Eat a performance meal (high protein, low
carbohydrate) while studying and before the
exam to provide optimal mental energy
[20] · Get enough sleep
· Exercise (physical energy = mental energy)
· Minimize your alcohol and caffeine use
· Use a relaxation exercise
· Study ahead of time and create practice
[25] tests similar to the format of the exam
(Multiple Choice, Essay, Concept
Application)
· Stop negative thoughts (“I don’t know
enough to pass”) about the test and
increase positive thoughts (“I know a lot of
this information; I’ll start with the questions I
[30] know”)
