One of the most important features of our closed material system is its degree of organization. Whereas the biosphere is an open system in terms of energy, constantly receiving solar rays, no new physical identity has been created since the birth of the planet. Thus, the recycling of everything is an absolute necessity to the nature of all ecological processes. The waste products of one process must become the materials of the next. Some of the more highly organized materials, such as fossil fuels, have taken millions of years to develop. These are nonrenewable resources — that is, once used, they cannot be replaced, at least in this geological age. In order to avoid entropy, materials cannot be used up faster than they are produced. In its simplest terms, then, pollution can be seen as our creation of more wastes than ecosystem can handle. We have interfered with nature's system of recycling and purification. The excess wastes we have produced are not being recycled and purified.

In order to get access to the inner working of the brain, researchers recruited 12 men and 4 women who were setto undergo surgery for malignant brain tumors. During neurosurgery, researchers attached electrodes to each participant's Broca's area — the part of the brain responsible for speech production - to monitor its activity during a series of tests. Participants were fully conscious during the tests and surgery was performed using local anesthesia.

In the first part of the test, participants read Italian words and phrases out loud while researchers measured both the sound waves of the speech and electrical signals in the  brain. In the second partofthe test, participants silently read the same words and phrases thatthey had just spoken.
An interesting pattern emerged. When reading aloud, patients showed activity in Broca's area that corresponded to the sound frequencies of the words. And when reading silently, their brains also mimicked the sound frequencies of each phrase. Atan anatomical level, then, reading silently is the brain internally speaking to itself.

Are you ready for the glasses of the future? They're made by Google and are a cross between a normal pair of spectacles and a high-powered computer. They're called Google Glass and are being released this year. What do they do? Well, while wearing the glasses you can take photos of what you see, and you can send and receive e-mails, get directions from the in-built SatNav, make phone calls and search for things online. How do they work”? Simple! You can control the glasses using voice commands. So, to take a picture (for example) you just say, “Glass - take a photo”. The specs have a tiny screen that displays information in front of your eyes (the screen is at the top of the right lens so it doesn't block your vision). So, if you receive an e-mail, itllappear on the small screen, or ifyou search the internet, the results will also appear on the screen. Google thinks Glass will one day replace smartphones.
