‘Barbenheimer’: Why the ‘Barbie’ vs ‘Oppenhemier’ phenomenon is a movie event for the ages
The Internet phenomenon surrounding the release of Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ and Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ is a cultural event of epic proportions with many opting to make it a double-feature Friday
The Queen of Dreams meets the Lord of Death this Friday. Visit a theatre this weekend and if you manage to get tickets, then chances are you would find moviegoers dolled up in pink and black and celebrating cinema. For, Greta Gerwig and Christopher Nolan are bringing to cinema halls Barbie and Oppenheimer, two films with polar sensibilities. There’s frenzy, thanks to an Internet meme-generated phenomenon: ‘Barbenheimer’.
When the release dates were announced by the studios, the portmanteau of ‘Barbenheimer’ started off as a meme that bullied Barbie, calling it a David that was up against a Goliath. Gradually, gender stereotypes came into the picture and eventually, the better part of the audience realised that it was not femininity vs. masculinity, but more of pink pairing up with black. This wholesome shaking of hands between the fandoms birthed organically a trend that was only fuelled by poster artists and merchandise. This sort of cultural bridge between the screen and the fans is in the fabric of generations of cinema-goers and fans dressing up to watch Star Wars or Harry Potter and the Marvel merchandise are proofs.
Some film enthusiasts looks at ‘Barbenheimer’ as just a significant reaction caused by the clash of films with polar sensibilities. And it has more to do with how the West has celebrated Hollywood cinema.
It is interesting how the ‘Barbenheimer’ trend birthed organically. “It was not something that was used as a marketing strategy. A culture is usually born organically out of an interesting conflict in a particular period of history, and I believe that such a conflict has birthed this phenomenon”, says the diretor PS Mithran.
We have seen other twin releases, but this is Barbenheimer. Pick your outfits and book your double-features.

FACMAR 2024SLEEP AND HEALTH
Erica Jansen - Research Assistant Professor of Nutritional Sciences March 2, 2020
Sleep is an altered state of consciousness where we have limited interactions with our surroundings and
are relatively quiet and still, depending on the stage of sleep. Contrary to our quiet physical state, the brain
is very active during sleep, carrying out many important functions. That is why sleep is essential to every
process in the body, affecting our physical and mental functioning the next day, our ability to fight disease
[05] and develop immunity, and our metabolism and chronic disease risk.
It is well-known that certain substances, such as caffeine, can affect the onset of sleep in a negative way. On
the other hand, evidence is growing that shows how other foods like tart cherries, kiwi, fatty fish (like salmon
and tuna), and malted milk may have beneficial effects on sleep. More recently, studies have shown that
healthy dietary patterns overall—not just specific foods—could be associated with longer sleep duration
[10] and shorter time to fall asleep.
Sleep is important for every part of the body. In young children, lack of sleep or poor quality sleep can be
associated with difficult behaviors, lower capacity to learn and retain information, and a propensity for poor
eating patterns and weight gain. As for adolescents, they need around 8-10 hours of sleep per night, but
a high proportion do not get that amount. This has to do with school times. In school districts that have
[15] enacted later school start times, research is consistently showing that students get more sleep and as a
result have better grades and improved mental health.
Good sleep is essential for maintaining our baseline mental health, as one night of sleep deprivation can
dramatically affect mood the next day. Chronic exposure to poor sleep quality is associated with depression,
anxiety, and other conditions. There are also bidirectional associations—meaning that experiencing anxiety
[20] and depression very often affects sleep, which then impacts our ability to cope with the anxiety and
depression, and so on.

Can Ergonomic Desk Chairs Relieve Back Pain?
Many people spend hours each day sitting in uncomfortable desk chairs. An awkward or ill-fitting chair could be placing added stress on the spine and causing back pain. Desk chairs with little lumbar support can lead to slouching. Other chairs cause the user to lean forward too much to work or view a monitor. If the desk chair is too high or too low for the user, this can negatively affect the position of the hips, pelvis, and low back. Pain can often be alleviated with a chair that can be adjusted to fit the body of the user.
An ergonomic desk chair may help alleviate back pain. However, to work best, it must be adjusted to fit the individual user’s body and comfort level. Remember that sitting in one position for extended periods of time in any type of chair is not good for the back. People should try to stand, stretch, and walk around periodically to keep muscles and joints loose and to increase blood flow.
If your back pain interferes with normal daily activities and has not improved with at-home treatments, it may be time to see a physician. Pain that spreads down one or both legs or causes weakness, numbness, or tingling in the legs is another reason to schedule an appointment with a specialist.
