The Implications of CHAT GPT on the Education Sector

ChatGPT, an AI-based language model, has the potential to revolutionize the education sector by providing personalized learning experiences, virtual tutoring, writing assistance, language learning, content generation, accessibility, critical thinking opportunities, and collaborative learning opportunities. However, along with its advantages, potential disadvantages and ethical concerns are associated with using ChatGPT in education.
Among its negative implications, there is potential for inaccurate or biased information, once it generates text based on patterns learned from vast amounts of data. It may only sometimes provide reliable and up-to-date information, and educators should verify the accuracy and relevance of the information supplied by it. Another negative implication is the over-reliance on AI, which may lead to a reduction in critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and creativity. Learners may become dependent on it for answers and need to develop the skills to analyze information critically or solve problems independently. There are also ethical concerns associated with using such model in education, such as data privacy, security, and using it for illegal actions. It is vital to ensure that the use of it in education is done ethically and in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
Educators must, therefore, ensure that ChatGPT is used responsibly, properly considering its limitations and potential risks, and implement measures to mitigate them. It is essential to strike a balance between the benefits and limitations of ChatGPT in education to ensure its responsible and effective use for the benefit of learners.

Abstract
Just as it’s important for you to have a healthy body, it’s also important to have a healthy mind. For a healthy body, you need to eat healthy food and do some exercise. But how do you keep your mind healthy? Perhaps exploring the meaning of things around us and thinking about how we should act in the world might help. That’s called philosophy!
We wanted to know if doing philosophy with children had a positive impact on their mental health. We conducted a 5-week experiment – two elementary school classes took part in philosophy activities for children and we compared the results to another class which didn’t. We found out that philosophy increases kids’ sense of autonomy (the ability to choose things for yourself) and decreases their anxiety. It didn’t make them feel more capable or give them a greater sense of belonging, though.
Introduction
Have you ever wondered about the big things in life, like what is happiness? Or what is true friendship? It’s normal for all of us to ask these questions. Usually when you are a kid your parents try to teach you about these kinds of things. In the 1970s, philosophy professor Matthew Lipman developed a series of activities for the classroom which he called Philosophy for Children (P4C). The aim of these activities is to help children think for themselves about things that matter. The series includes different kinds of activities in which kids discuss various topics: social justice, the environment, animal rights, and more. Since kids usually spend more time at school than they do at home, school is a great place for these discussions. The teacher’s role is to encourage the students to talk and express their thoughts and beliefs, not to give them the ‘answers’ – after all, these are the kind of questions to which there are no easy answers!
There is evidence that P4C really does make kids better thinkers and better students. But we thought that the program might also help with the students’ mental health. After all, over the past decade, mental health problems among children have been increasing. So what if schools implemented the P4C program? Would it have a positive impact on their mental health? This is the question we wanted to answer.

According to the Sleep Foundation in America, a conservative estimate is that 10 to 30 per cent of adults experience chronic insomnia or problems with sleeping. One common way this manifests is through difficulty falling asleep in the first place, especially due to anxious thoughts whizzing about.
Indeed, a study from the University of Oxford found that a key difference between insomniacs and controls was the content of their thoughts at bedtime, with the problem sleepers being more focused on worries and concerns as compared with the healthy controls who tended to think about nothing in particular.
Anecdotally, many of us have had the experience of falling blissfully fast asleep in front of the TV, only to find that when we stir and take ourselves to bed, we lie there wide-awake with anxious thoughts racing through our minds. This common scenario neatly encapsulates one of the main reasons our heads fill with worry at night – it’s the lack of distraction.
When you’re busy during the day, your brain is occupied with all manner of tasks and activities, whether working, doing chores, talking to others or having fun. In the evening, you might eat dinner, chat and then watch TV – all the while, the brain is occupied, especially the regions involved in planning, decision making and other aspects of worry
Yet the moment you rest your head on your pillow and switch out the lights, all external distraction and engagement with the outside world is gone. Your mind is entirely free to turn in on itself, either to fret about all that’s happened or to worry about the next day to come – the past and the future being the two main sources of anxious thoughts.

In Pricey London, Free Parks Are a Cherished Haven
By Isabella Kwai
Sept. 25, 2023
In a city where damp, gray days can seem to drag on interminably even in summer, London’s playing fields and green spaces tend to teem with life whenever the weather cooperates.
And people in the capital have an enviable amount of op ons: Urban planners have called London one of the greenest ci es in the world, with an intertwined and diverse medley of leafy squares, parks both vast and small, and other oases of grass and trees amid the urban conges on.
London is also one of the world’s most expensive cities.
But its public parks and green spaces, o en called “the lungs of London,” are free, places where all the city’s nearly nine million residents — wherever they are and whoever they are — can go to relax and escape the city’s pressures.
Urban experts say the idea of the public park as a democra c space — in a cramped city with deep socioeconomic inequali es — stems from Victorian mes, when campaigners fought for Londoners to have equitable access to green space for health reasons. Officials bought land and opened new public parks in this era, as Bri sh ci es urbanized.
“There’s a cultural expecta on of access to green space,” said Meredith Whi en, a fellow at the London School of Economics, whose research focuses on the urban environment.
The value of London’s green space became especially apparent during the Covid-19 lockdowns, with parks offering a cherished reprieve. But as parks became even more important with so much of the city shu ered, it was widely noted that the city’s green spaces, too, could underscore exis ng dispari es: Residents of some poorer neighborhoods needed to go much farther afield than others to reach a green refuge.

FIP-Moc 2024/2Diseases spread in Gaza amid
health system collapse, Israeli strikes
Part I
WHO says diarrhoea cases surged 66 percent among chil dren. Meningitis, chickenpox, jaundice also reported.
The besieged residents of the Gaza Strip who have so far survived Israel’s bombs and bullets, are increasingly faced with the spread of diseases amid heavy winter rains that have flooded their makeshift shelters, and an acute shortage of food and potable water.
Doctors and aid workers have warned of epidemics given the dire humanitarian situation and with the enclave’s health system on its knees. From November 29 to December 10, cases of diarrhoea in children under five jumped 66 percent to 59,895 and increased by 55 percent for the rest of the population, according to data from the World Health Organization (WHO).
The UN health agency cautioned that the figures likely did not provide the full picture because of a lack of complete information with the health system and other services in Gaza near collapse. (…). To be continued...
